damn you cabbie!

last night, amidst intense stress, I decided to walk over to my friend asha's place to de-stress....as I was walking back in a completely distracted state of mind, I began to cross the road on a WALK sign...thankfully the human mind is programmed to do a few things right even when not functioning...but an unmindful cabbie had me question that!!! he brakes at the red light but ends up midway on the zebra crossing....I don't quite remember how or why I started to walk around the cab to get back on the crossing, a short memory lapse, but right when I was behind the cab, the guy starts backing up into me to get behind the crossing line....could I have been in his blindspot or did he just relax on his driving skills and lazily not look in the rearview mirror? he continues reversing into me. I cave in and start taking giant steps to keep up with the vehicle's pace, so as not to lose grip and fall....the car behind starts honking hard as he watches the crazy driver backing into me but the man still doesn't realize that he is almost driving over me! finally after being pushed a few steps, I managed to jump to the side and he finally acknowledges me. I was ready to give him a piece of my mind but saw the apologetic freaked-out look on his face and decided to let go, and walked on as I didn't want to deal with any more drama at that point...and...the cabbie looked bangladeshi!

umbrella cold war.

as I was walking to work this morning under my cute purple umbrella, I made a random observation...usually, I am very clumsy with an umbrella as I am trying to manage not getting my handbag wet but at the same time struggling to hold the umbrella in place so that I am all secured! In the process, I end up either smacking people or their umbrellas with mine and surprisingly I have not been able to provoke or get a reaction from a single person yet! and I always thought to myself, 'wow, some people are actually nice out here in this big cruel city'....but today I noticed that I am not the lone survivor of this heinous act! I witnessed at least 7-8 such incidents within the span of my 20 min walk....and people just kept walking on rushing to get to their destination.....didn't hear a single "oh I'm so sorry" or "what the heck, watch your bloody umbrella!"

have we become that engrossed in keeping up with the fast-paced life in the Big Apple that we cannot be bothered to react anymore? I mean hullooo....a 'sorry!' would've been courteous.......or a "what the F' would've been absolutely acceptable with a missing apology!
